Meet Jon Limmer, better known as J. Limm, the Co-Owner and Head Engineer at The Sound Box Recording Studio. Jon’s journey into music began in 2005 at the age of 16, when he discovered PCdj Record Producer and began experimenting with beat-making and mixing. That early curiosity quickly evolved into a lifelong passion for audio production.

In 2009, Jon took his skills to the next level by enrolling at The Institute of Production and Recording, where he earned an AAS Degree in Audio Production, Engineering, and Audio Post Production. There, he deepened his understanding of recording, mixing, mastering, and post-production for both music and multimedia.

After graduation, Jon stayed connected with fellow IPR alum Rich Shultz, who had a vision of building a world-class studio and made it clear he wanted Jon on the team. When The Sound Box Recording Studio opened in 2016, Jon relocated from Nebraska to Iowa and joined as a lead engineer—and he’s been shaping the sound of the Midwest ever since.

With nearly two decades of experience and over 100 artists under his belt, Jon’s work spans all genres—from hip-hop and rock to country and pop. His meticulous approach to mixing and mastering has helped countless artists bring their creative visions to life. Beyond music, Jon has contributed audio for film, television, and multimedia projects, specializing in Foley, ADR, and post-production.

In addition to engineering, Jon offers music distribution and web development services. He’s certified in Pro Tools and Apple Logic, and his first digital audio workstation was Sony Acid 6.0.

When he's not in the studio, you can find Jon outdoors—fishing, relaxing with family, or soaking up inspiration for the next big project.
